Yin Cao Receives K Award

Yin Cao, ScD, MPH

Yin Cao, ScD, MPH, assistant professor of surgery, has been awarded a four-year, $567,000 K07 grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

Through the award, Optimizing the Impact of Aspirin for Chemoprevention, Dr. Cao and colleagues aim to optimize the impact of aspirin for chemoprevention through an integrated approach. They will first leverage a large clinical trial in Australia & the United States to define aspirin’s chemopreventative efficacy among the elderly.

They will then work with colleagues at NCI Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network (CISNET) to integrate these findings to recalibrate the current U.S. Preventive Services Task Force aspirin guidelines on cardiovascular and colorectal cancer prevention. Finally, they aim to identify barriers for implementation at primary care settings.

Dr. Cao will work with a multidisciplinary team comprised of leading investigators in the field. Faculty mentors at Division of Public Health Sciences include Graham Colditz, MD, DrPH, the Niess-Gain Professor of Surgery, and Aimee James, PhD, MPH, associate professor of surgery.
