Disparities in Adherence to Adjuvant Therapy for DCIS and Outcomes

Faculty involved: Ying Liu

Dr. Liu’s grant, Disparities in Adherence to Adjuvant Therapy for DCIS and Outcomes, will analyze the influence of race, healthcare providers, and neighborhoods for initial and follow-up care of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a precancerous breast lesion. She and colleagues will compare the state of Missouri levels to the national levels for disparities. DCIS is highly treatable, but is more likely to progress to invasive breast cancer in African-American women than other ethnicities. This funding provides Dr. Liu and her colleagues the opportunity to understand why racial disparities may exist in African-American women. It will help inform intervention strategies.
