Yi Yang, MPH (University of Melbourne, Australia) will be giving a lecture titled “Hypothetical Interventions on Physical Activity and TV Viewing in Relation to All-Cause Mortality” on June 24 at noon in the Doll and Hill room.

Lecture Description:

In the absence of evidence from randomized trials to quantify the long-term effects of sustained physical activity and sedentary behaviour, understanding how they are jointly related to mortality could be enhanced by better exploiting data from observational studies. We used the parametric g-formula to estimate the effects of single or joint hypothetical interventions for insufficient physical activity and TV viewing on all-cause mortality using data from Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study. Our findings suggest that sustained interventions on physical activity could lower mortality, but there might be limited gain from intervening on TV viewing time in a relatively healthy population.
