Community town halls were held in late August and early September by PECaD and Siteman Cancer Center to help address community questions surrounding the new Siteman at Christian Hospital. Slated to open in December 2019, these town halls were designed to give community members the opportunity to ask Siteman physicians and researchers about the next phase of cancer care in north St. Louis County.
At each of the town hall events, community members provided great feedback and asked questions ranging from clinical care to support services for family and caregivers to prevention opportunities. A sampling of the questions and comments we received are below.
- Will the indigent/homeless (underinsured or uninsured) population have access to the new facility?
- Will therapy dogs be at the new Siteman?
- How is Siteman addressing reaching the needs of males regarding prostate cancer
- Is the occurrence of breast cancer in younger women increasing? Is there a possibility for the age of regular scans [mammograms] will change?
A formal report will be written and shared with community members in the near future. If you are interested in receiving a digital copy, please contact Marilyn at wilsonmarilynl@wustl.edu. PECaD hopes to host quarterly events to remain engaged with the community, and more information will be shared as events are planned. PECaD would like to thank those who attended and our community partners for helping spread the word. We hope these events were beneficial to community members, and look forward to our continued work in north St. Louis County.
