Sign up now for the WashU Wellness 10k-A-Day Challenge!
Registration opened May 6th, and the competition starts on May 20th and ends July 14th.
10k-A-Day is the new steps-based activity challenge brought to you by Wellness Connection. It’s a fun-filled walking tour that takes you to some of the world’s most fascinating cities. You’ll stop at exciting tourist hot spots each day – from ancient fortresses to seaside parks – as you strive for 10,000 daily steps.
Don’t worry if 10,000 steps each day seems like a lot. While there are rewards for achieving 4,000, 7,000, or 10,000 steps each day, the challenge is really about moving more. Movement is a fundamental aspect of life. It affects everything from circulation to digestion to metabolism to immunity. The body contributes far more to our lives than just physical attributes such as strength and endurance; it plays a major role in emotions, learning, and relationships. By participating in this 8-week activity challenge, we can focus on incorporating more movement into our daily routine.
Here’s where the fun begins! This year PHS is going to mix it up and bring on a little healthy competition. Kelly Oman and Danielle Schulte will each be heading a team. Kelly’s team is the Public Health Perambulators and Danielle’s is the Public Health Pacesetters. We can have up to 20 team members each, but we do need a minimum of 4 people per team. You will earn points every day for the steps (or step equivalent – yep, they have a way you can translate that yoga class into steps!) you take each day.
- 4000-6999 steps = 3 points
- 7000-9999 steps = 4 points
- 10,000+ steps = 5 points
There are also CASH rewards. If you earn just 3 points during the program, you will earn $5. Earn 120 – 159 points, the reward becomes $15, and for 160+ will net you $25 at the end of the 8 weeks!
You will be able to sync your own devices to the 10k-A-Day app once the program starts. Wellness Connection also offers benefits-eligible employees a one-time offer to receive a Garmin vivoki free of charge. You can request yours by emailing our campus box number (8100) to email@example.com. We also get a discount to purchase other Garmin products here.
