Adetunji Toriola, MD, MPH, PhD

Adetunji_ToriolaAssistant Professor, Division of Public Health Sciences
Department of Surgery
(314) 286-2668

Dr. Toriola trained and worked as a physician and subsequently became interested in public health and cancer prevention. Afterwards, he undertook trainings in public health (MPH), epidemiology (PhD) in Finland, and a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer epidemiology and prevention at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Heidelberg, Germany. Dr. Toriola is a molecular cancer epidemiologist, whose research focus is on the utility of biomarkers to elucidate the associations of energetics, hormones and inflammation with cancer risk and mortality, particularly ovarian, breast cancers and gastrointestinal cancers. He has taken leading roles in studies conducted within large cohorts such as the Women’s Health Initiative Observational Study, Finnish Maternity Cohort, and Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study.
