PECaD Faculty Member Highlight – Melody Goodman

Melody GoodmanMelody Goodman, PhD, assistant professor of surgery at Washington University School of Medicine’s Division of Public Health Sciences, has been appointed to the St. Louis City Board of Health. In this role, Dr. Goodman will help advise the Commissioner of Health on public health issues facing St. Louis City. Dr. Goodman was appointed in November 2015 by St. Louis City Mayor Francis Slay. Her term will run through February 2019.

“I am honored to be appointed to the Board of Health by Mayor Slay,” Goodman said. “This is a great opportunity to share what I am learning in my community-engaged public health research to help guide those doing public health practice.”

With the Program for The Elimination of Cancer Disparities (PECaD), Dr. Goodman leads the Community Research Fellows Training (CRFT) program, a 15-week course that teaches community members how to work with academic researchers to improve community health. Since the CRFT program began, more than 100 community members have graduated from the course and some have moved on to explore other community health projects within the St. Louis region.
